You don’t have to travel far and wide to learn about how the world. Works. Discover a range of exciting cultures and traditions right on your doorstep.

Safety

Scissors
Supervise young people appropriately when they’re using scissors. Store all sharp objects securely, out of the reach of young people
Online Promise video
Make sure parents and carers are aware and have given consent for online activities.
Hiking and Walking
You should be accompanied by a parent or carer, follow the countryside code and check the weather forecast is suitable before you set out.
All activities must be safely managed. Do a risk assessment and take appropriate steps to reduce risk.

Our World Task 1: For the Love of Scrubs
Help out in our local community by letting carers and NHS staff know how much we appreciate them.

We would love as many of our young people as possible to join in with this postcard ‘thank you’ which has been organised by one of our West Bridgford Scouters - Becky Howard who is part of the Notts Team - For The Love of Scrubs - Our NHS needs you! We know lots of leaders and young people are sewing too - well done everyone! If you are happy to make more than 1 this would also be appreciated.

 A great way to say Thanks to our Carers and NHS staff


Our World Task 2: Become a Dear Friend.
Lots of people are in hospital and have no one they can contact. You can send a card to brighten their day sending smiles through the post.

You can make a bright and colourful card, draw a rainbow or other picture, send a purchased card or write a letter. Follow the guidelines given out by Age UK on their link below, take a photo of your work to show your leader and send to Lings Bar Hospital. Why not send several cards so more people can enjoy receiving them. You can mention you are a Cub Scout if you would like.


Our World Task 3: Promise Renewal
Join us as we celebrate our St George’s Day Promise Renewal

This year we cannot all meet together to renew our promises so we have created an online virtual Promise Renewal! Please join in and say your promise with us.

Our World Task 6: Hike to the Moon
Join Bear Grylls in our challenge for all Scouts to hike to the Moon. As you hike look and listen for nature with less traffic around you can hear birds and see insects or evidence of wild animals. Make a list of the wildlife you encounter. If you have already completed your hike go out into the garden and look for all the nature around you to make your list.

Cubs: Scientist Activity Badge

From the cells in our bodies to the energy fuelling our homes and the stars in the night sky, we use science to find out more about the mind-boggling universe we call home. Pop on your safety goggles and get experimenting. To earn your badge, do all six of the science activities below. For each one, take photographs and write explanations to email  your leader showing what you did and what you found out. Safety Science Supervise young people, and only do science activities that are advised and age appropriate for your section. Test activities first, to make sure you’re confident you can lead them safely. Use protective clothing where necessary. Scissors Supervise young people appropriately when they’re using scissors. Store all sharp objects securely, out of the reach of young people Rubbish and recycling All items should be clean and suitable for this activity. Listen up! from simple phone calls to secret codes, Scouts are fantastic communicators. How to earn your badge: 1.      Learn how to make a phone call. Morse code uses dots and dashes to show the alphabet letters, numbers, punctuation and special characters of a given message. Beavers and Cubs: Super Scarves

Today we’re going to learn to be more independent and remember what it means to be a Scout by practising rolling, folding, and tying our Scout scarves. Some people call them neckers, and others have other names too. To learn to roll, fold, and tie your scarf, all you’ll need is your scarf, a woggle, and a little bit of space. Everyone got their stuff? Hold it up so everyone can see... great, let’s go. Start off by spreading out your scarf with the point facing away from you, then smooth it out. Start to roll it away from you, using both hands and keeping it nice and smooth. Stop rolling once there’s about a hand span of space between the roll and the point. Stretch your hand out like a starfish – if your thumb touches the roll, your little finger should touch the point of the scarf. Unroll your scarf so you can practise folding it. It works in the same way, except you’ll fold it instead of rolling it. Scouts all over the world wear neckers – they remind everyone that they’re a part of
