Photographer Task 1: Pinhole pictures
Make your own version of a pin hole camera – the very first photographic device. Can you still take the perfect shot.

You will need: Double sided sticky tape, black tape, an aluminium can, a needle, a cork, pliers, fine sandpaper, strips of Velcro, a dark space to work in, photographic paper, craft materials (including large scissors, craft knife, glue stick, stiff black card and a metal ruler. If you don’t have any of these items can they be substituted with something similar you do have – give it a go!

Photographer Task 2: Create a photo journal of ‘Life in your Household during COVID-19’.
They say that ‘a picture is worth a thousand words’. Take photographs showing the impact COVID-19 has had on your life and others in your family. Show some of the good changes and discuss any changes that are difficult or make you upset. Who can you talk with to celebrate the good times, have you discussed the difficult times with your parents are there any changes that can be made to help you adjust to this.

You will need: Coloured pens or pencils, rulers, big pieces of paper, props, set materials, camera or phone, moveable light source, access to a device with photo editing software.

Show how using different settings on your camera can alter a photo (focus, exposure control and flash settings). Are you able to explain the impact of shutter speed and aperture size on your image. What smartphone settings could you add to improve the photo journal.

What accessories do you have, or could you get, for use with your camera or smartphone. Using only items you already have in your house could you repurpose recycling to come up with useful accessories that don’t harm the planet.

Edit a selection of your photographs showing both the original and each different change you have made. This could include cropping, colour contrast or light levels.

Did any photos not turn out how you would have expected such as under or over exposed, camera shake and how could you improve this for the future?
